My personal conspiracy theory is this has to do with steam, but perhaps its not fair to place all the blame on their shoulders, IDK. It's interesting to note that the campaign maps for both medieval II and Empire total war both run smoothly, yet RTW does not, despite being an older game. I have been working on this problem for about 3 months now, and have asked on countless technical support forums. If you are genuinely skilled in this issue then please help me. I have talked to several people who own the game on steam and with windows 7 and they don't have issues, just me. However, the campaign map consistently always lags and stutters if you try to move the camera around or do anything on the campaign. The battles run even more smoothly than they did before.

I recently bought a modern computer and I bought rome total war gold version on STEAM. I used to own RTW on dvd and it ran fine, both on the campaign and in battles, and this was on an older computer. tried all the different settings, including AA, campaign shaddows. update my graphics drivers, several drivers. delete all files related to the game, reinstall. run the game/steam in both xp SP2/SP3 mode. I should begin this by saying that I own a modern computer (i3-2100, ATI 6670, 4GB Ram, 1TB space, etc) and that I have tried all of the following suggestions already, so please don't suggest them again:
